Carol Donaldson Composer & Musical Director

Carol Donaldson is a composer of bespoke music for theatre, television and radio with many years experience. She is also a popular choir and singing workshop leader.

Carol has just done an exciting new musical 'Dreamer's - written by Cathy Crabb and Lindsay Williams, set in the nightclub of the same name in Oldham. Great 4 star review from the Guardian

Produced by Oldham Coliseum, directed by Kevin Shaw and ran June/July '15.

The show has an all female cast, including Sally Carman ('Shameless'), Olivier nominee Rachel Leskovac, and all female community chorus. The show has original songs by Carol and a host of anthemic 90's Indie Classics. There's a real buzz about 'Dreamers', large groups of women, hen nights etc went and it became 'The Dreamers Phenomen' - it sold out many nights and broke the records for bar sales! ! See 'Theatre ' page for excerpt.

Carol was Choir Director on the much talked about Sainsbury's Christmas 2014 advert , showing the Christmas truce of 1914. (Woodwork Music.  See video above.

On 12th July Carol  conducted 1,000 singers for the 2014 National Street Choirs Festival - see youtube below of Nkosi Sikel i'Africa, the South African national Anthem

Carol's choir 'Open Voice' from Whalley Range, M/cr  recently performed in a sell-out show of David Grieg's award winning innovative play 'The Events' at HOME

Carol was composer and MD for the much acclaimed 'Cinderella' written by Ian Kershaw ('Shameless') Dir: Joe Sumsion and produced by the Dukes Theatre, Lancaster Christmas'14 . It's a feministy reworking of the tale and has original folky & bluegrass influenced songs in! See theatre page for an excerpt.

Singing workshops and choirs

Singing workshops and choirs

I use  the Natural Voice approach -we all have a voice but are often too scared to use it. I helps free the natural voice bursting to get out of all of us, using a variety of fun techniques. Singing in a group is uplifting emotionally & physically.

I run several community choirs including OPEN VOICE in South Manchester, for 15 years, the Melody Macs for MacMillans,  and Calder Valley Voices in Hebden Bridge

Me and Wendy Paintsil launched Wrexham Community Choir in Jan 2012 which now has over 100 people coming every week!

I have run many singing workshops all over the country including 'From discord to harmony' workshops at Manchester Buddhist centre and I have run the singing workshops at One World Camp for 14 years every summer

I led  500 singers in Manchester City Centre for the 25th Street CHoir Festival in 2007.

Please click on the top left hand  'Choirs' & Singing Workshop'  tab for more info about the choirs.
