Epic songs for epic times


RISE! is a new six-piece band built around the beautiful alto voice of Greek singer Iris Mavraki.

 RISE! explores and celebrates the idea of the epic political song, drawing on traditions ranging from Turkey to the Americas, from Northern Italy to Russia, featuring songs by Mikis Theodorakis, Ennio Morricone, Bertold Brecht and Hans Eisler, Jack Warshaw, Nazim Hikmet, Zulfi Livaneli, Brendan Behan ,Joan Baez, Aidan Jolly. Songs against War, for Peace, for human rights, against racism and fascism, . 
We aim to take the audience on a stirring and inspiring journey through a multi-lingual culture of social commentary and resistance. This is music for the head, heart and soul.

Clive Hunte on bass

Aidan Jolly on guitar, bouzouki, saz and symphonie

Jaydev Mistry on percussion

Alice Nicolay on clarinet and sax.

Upcoming GIGS:
We are planning a short tour mid May '17 - dates to be confirmed.  We're hoping to organise a collaboration with musicians from Greece and local community choirs.
